SASS + CO. BODY’S SAFE ALTERNATIVES
Here at Sass + Co. Body HQ we work ‘round the clock to create products fit for body positive queens and education on what’s safe and what’s not. For every harmful chemical out there, a natural alternative is available and we choose to use the following in place of the nasty stuff:
ANISIC ACID
Found naturally in anise, Anisic Acid is an antiseptic that’s used as a preservative in skincare products.
CITRIC ACID
Citric Acid is an extract derived from citrus fruits that’s generally used to adjust the pH of cosmetics, but it can also have a slight exfoliating effect on the skin. Bonus!
DICAPRYLYL CARBONATE
We use a vegetable-based version of this emollient that spreads easily, leaves skin soft but not greasy, and helps our other awesome ingredients sink in.
GLYCERIN
Our palm-free Glycerin hydrates your skin, shields it from environmental irritants and keeps it looking fresh and young. It’s a winner!
CETEARYL ALCOHOL
This vegetable-based fatty alcohol prevents our moisturiser from separating. It’s completely safe and non-irritating!
GLYCERYL STEARATE
Another mouthful of words for something so simple! Glyceryl Stearate is naturally derived from vegetables and traps moisture in your skin. Win win.
CETEARYL OLIVATE + SORBITAN OLIVATE
A natural emulsifier developed from olive oil, this funky-sounding combo simply helps to blend other moisturising ingredients together
SODIUM COCOYL ISETHIONATE
Derived from coconut oil, SCI is best known for its sparkling-clean properties. We give it a big tick of approval because it helps water to mix with dirt and oil, washing it all away from your skin cells and down the drain.
SODIUM LEVULINATE
This is a schmancy word for a type of salt that’s used as a preservative in cosmetics.
WATER
Aqua! The source of life! And it’s essential in skincare products to dissolve into your skin all those beautiful ingredients that hydrate and nourish.
XYLITYLGLUCOSIDE + ANHYDROXYLITOL + XYLITOL
Say what? These scary sounding science-y words are nothing more than natural sugars that help to hydrate the skin and reduce moisture loss. Phew!
XANTHAN GUM
Derived from glucose or sucrose (sugars), Xanthan Gum can be used to bind, stabilise and increase the shelf life of skincare products.
COCO-GLUCOSIDE
A biodegradable, non-ionic surfactant derived from raw materials like corn and fruit sugars as well as coconut oil, Coco-Glucoside is a gentle ingredient for all skin types.
COCAMIDOPROPYL BETAINE
Coconut derived and gentle enough for all skin types.
GLYCERYL CAPRYLATE
A safe skin-conditioning agent, emollient and emulsifying agent.
POTASSIUM SORBATE
Natural preservative used instead of nasty parabens. Stops your products from turning into miso soup.
OLEA EUROPAEA (OLIVE) LEAF EXTRACT
Used for its antibacterial properties, which work as a natural preservative, while repairing skin damage, hydrating, stimulating and calming any irritation.
LIMONENE
Occurs naturally in essential oils and lemon rind. Adds a citrus aroma.
GERANIOL
A plant-based ingredient that occurs naturally in essential oils such as geranium, rose and lemon. It adds a natural fragrance to your product.
CITRONELLOL
A constituent of essential oils, including rose, geranium and neroli. It adds a natural fragrance to your product.
LINALOOL
Occurs naturally in plant-based essential oils such as tangerine, spearmint, rose, cypress and lemon. It adds a touch of sweet aroma to your product.
DECYL GLUCOSIDE
This is used to make products that are as sensi as a baby’s bum! It’s plant derived from corn starch and cleanses like a boss.
ACACIA SENEGAL GUM + RHIZOBIAN GUM
Plant based and safe, both are used as sensational thickeners in our products.
ROSEMARY LEAF
The ultimate antioxidant, Rosemary Leaf is fantastic in combating ageing thanks to its regenerating, rejuvenating and stimulating properties. Bring on improved skin tone and tightening for a firmer complexion.
BILBERRY FRUIT EXTRACT
Brimming with antioxidant properties, which may help to reverse sun spots and the like thanks to an oxidation process that maintains strong blood flow in your skin’s capillaries.
